Lightning Policy:

Severe weather (ie: lightning) poses a danger of serious injury. Therefore, to insure the safety of our members and guests the Board of Directors has approved the following lightning policy for the Punxsutawney Country Club:

In the event that there is lightning in the area and it is deemed necessary to evacuate the course or temporarily suspend play the Board of Directors has unanimously approved the Club Professional (Craig Mankins) or his appointed designee as the authority to make such decisions. The Pro Shop personnel will make the final determination; it is not up to an individual's discretion. All decisions are to be respected and any individual who willingly disregards the Pro's decision will be suspended for 30 days.

If it becomes necessary to evacuate the course the Pro will sound a warning horn 3 times. This will indicate to players they are to vacate the golf course immediately. The rain shelters behind #4 Tee and the practice green are not grounded for lightning protection and should not be used.

Once it is safe to return, the Pro Shop will sound a horn twice, and play may resume.

If you see lightning or hear thunder while you are playing golf or on the club grounds and you do not hear the warning horn, it is the Club's policy that all individuals immediately leave the course or grounds and return to the Club House for shelter.

Once it is safe to return, the Pro Shop will sound a horn twice, and play may resume.

In the event you see lightning or hear thunder while you are playing golf or on the club grounds and you do not hear the warning horn, it is the Club's policy that all individuals immediately leave the course or grounds and return to the Club House for shelter.

Lightning Safety Tips:

1. Avoid seeking shelter in or under these areas:

- trees - outdoor metal objects - golf carts - water - open fields - high ground - unsafe shelters (The rain shelter behind #4 Tee is not grounded for lightning protection)

2. Seek shelter in any of the following areas:

- Fully enclosed metal vehicles with windows up
- Substantial buildings
- Low ground, seek cover in clumps of bushes

3. If you can see lightning or hear thunder, seek shelter immediately!

4. If you feel your hair stand on end, or if you are caught outside during close-in lightning, immediately remove any metal objects place your feet together, duck your head, and crouch down low in a baseball catchers' stance with hands on your ears!

5. Wait a minimum of 30 minutes from the last observed strike before resuming play!

6. If someone is struck by lightning, apply first aid immediately, if you are qualified. Get emergency help promptly!!
